Introduction

I started this blog for recipes I use backpacking. In time, it will expand to recipes for home, too. I set some conditions for the recipes.
1. 3,000 calories a day
2. Pack weight less than 1.5 pounds.
3. Can be cooked in a 2 cup pot
4. Carbs, proteins, fats balanced
5. Cost less than $5.00 a day
6. Good enough to eat at home
7. Cooks in 5 min or less (more for home recipes)
8. Flexible so many ingredients can be substituted.
9 Measure in grams so it's easy to scale
10. Ingredients are organic or natural
11. One serving must fit in a Ziploc snack size bag
12. All ingredients must be available at Vitamin Cottage

The recipes aren't meant to be followed exactly, but to be a process of learning what goes well together so something can be thrown together with what is on hand.

I have found it's much easier to cook with grams with a kitchen or postal scale. (Think of measuring a 1/4 cup of peanut butter or Agave nector.) Weights are more accurate than cups as a cup can be packed tightly or loosely or have more or less depending on how things are broken up (like dehydrated bananas.)

Nutrient information is taken from labels. No adjustments are made for losses due to cooking as I don't know how to do that.
